bjym protest near pm residence

Rail scam: BJYM members protest, cops caught unawares, canecharge

Members of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the youth wing of BJP, along with some senior leaders, staged a protest outside the CBI office, Sector 30, on Tuesday demanding the resignation of Union Minister for Railways Pawan Kumar Bansal, following the arrest of his nephew for allegedly accepting a bribe from a member of the railway board.

The police had to resort to canecharging after the protesters surrounded the police personnel. The protesters, holding placards, were protesting on one side of the barricade. They raised slogans against Bansal and UPA chief Sonia Gandhi. The police were standing on the other side of the barricades with the riot control vehicles in place. However, some BJYM members took the police by surprise by walking up from behind them, but they were overpowered by the police.

In the meantime, other workers who were protesting broke the barriers. Police personnel were taken unawares and started running after the protesters. The position of the riot control vehicle also had to be shifted.

Addressing the gathering, BJP city unit chief Sanjay Tandon condemned the government officials for allegedly altering the coal scam report.

He also said that Bansal and his family members were ‘neck-deep in corruption’. He alleged that the latest incident exposed the nepotistic functioning of the government and demanded the state Congress president’s resignation and the “ever-so-mute Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to show him the door”.

Chandigarh BJYM president Amit Rana said that scams and corruption went hand in hand with the Congress-led UPA government. He also added that such protests were inevitable, as the prime minister had again chosen to remain silent on the issue.

‘Besharam Saptah’ launched against UPA govt’s ‘cash and carry’ policy

Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) city unit members on Tuesday launched a nationwide campaign ‘Besharam Saptah’ against the alleged scams of the Congress-led UPA government. BJYM national president Anurag Thakur stated that the country had been plundered repeatedly through an unending saga of scams, including 2G, CWG, chopper deal, coal report and the latest rail scam in which Union Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal has been named.

The youth wing of India’s Bharatia Janata Party  (BJP) held a protest outside Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s residence demanding his resignation for failing to check corruption in his government.
The activists of the BJP’s student wing, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), tried to break barricades in order to reach the Prime Minister’s residence compelling the police to use force and water canons to disperse them.
“We demand proper investigation into the series of scams and cases of corruption in the government and the ministers having hands in gloves be punished,” said Anurag Thakur, BJYM president.   The protesters clashed with security personnel when they were stopped from marching towards the PM’s residence.
Holding placards and shouting slogans, the Morcha activists led by Thakur started march from Aurangzeb Road but were stopped from moving further near Tughlak Road police station. The angry protesters managed to breach the first line of the three-tier-barricade. They chanted slogans and burnt Manmohan Singh’s effigy. Proper security arrangements are made near the Prime Minister’s House and prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code, banning any gathering of four or more people, has been imposed in the areas.
“Around 200 protestors, including Anurag Thakur and Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel, were detained. They were taken to Tughlak Road police station and later were let off,” said a senior police official.
Meanwhile, BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said the party would launch a “Jail Bharo” agitation later this month for the same cause. BJP President Rajnath Singh had also asked Prime Minister Singh to step down from his post following the resignations of his two tainted ministers, Pawan Kumar Bansal and Ashwani Kumar. In a swift and decisive move, the Congress Party dropped both Kumar and Bansal from the Union Cabinet yesterday in view of the charges of corruption and impropriety surrounding the duo.
Vernacular movements were also affected due to the protest. Several roads leading to the Prime Minister’s residence, like Akbar Road and Ashoka Road were closed to the general public, and traffic was diverted. Meanwhile, the DMRC, anticipating the protest, also closed the Race Course Road Metro station near the Prime Minister’s residence for public this morning. However, the station resumed functioning in the afternoon.
